current studies > Alzheimer's (early) Clinical trials for patients with early or "pre-clinical" Alzheimer's disease explore the possibility that the illness can be detected in its mildest form. Until now the diagnosis of Alzheimer's required significant cognitive impairment and loss of function, but new imaging and biochemical markers have led to the hope that the illness can be diagnosed when mild memory impairment is the only symptom. Typically, these studies explore ways to make the diagnosis earlier, or medications that might delay or prevent the onset of disabling cognitive impairment.
